Use or pay out store credit
Store credit is money a customer can spend later. It comes only from returns settled as store credit. It's kept per currency, for example dollars and riel separately, and never expires.
A customer can:
- Spend it on any of their invoices in the same currency, with a payment of method Store credit.
- Ask for it as money. You pay it out, which records a refund.
Who can do this: To spend it, anyone who can create payments. To pay it out, anyone who can create refunds, such as Accountants.
Step by step
See a customer's store credit
Open the customer in Sales › Customers.
Look at Credit balance on the right. It shows the credit in each currency, with the credit notes and payments that changed it.

Spend store credit on an invoice
Open the invoice and click Take payment, or go to Finance › Payments › New and choose the customer.
Set Method to Store credit. The help under it shows how much credit is available.
Tick the invoice. Its Amount fills in with the smaller of what's due and the credit available.

Click Save & confirm. The credit balance goes down by that amount.
If the credit doesn't cover the whole invoice, take a second payment for the rest with another method.
Pay out store credit as money
Open the customer and click More › Pay out store credit.
Check the Currency, which shows how much is available, and the Amount. It starts as the whole balance.
Check the Shop where the money is handed back, and choose the Method, such as Cash.
Add a Reference or Note if needed, and attach a receipt the customer signed under Proof.

Click Save & confirm, and hand over the money. The refund opens, marked as a Store credit payout. The customer's credit balance goes down, and you can print a receipt.
You can also pay out from Finance › Refunds › New.
Having trouble?
- Pay out store credit isn't in the More menu: the customer has no store credit.
- Store credit isn't accepted for an invoice: the credit is in another currency than the invoice. Credit is never converted between currencies.
- The walk-in customer: never has store credit. Its returns are always refunded.
